AS YOUR CHIROPRACTIC CONSULTANT, THIS IS DR. MARK RADERMACHER, AND WELCOME TO YOUR TPMI FUNCTIONAL PHILOSOPHY TOPIC.
The topic this week is not a very long topic, but it’s a very interesting philosophical point of view, and the name of it is The Maker of the Game. In life, do you find that in many instances, when you look past tense, things you had done in grade school, in high school, in college, in chiropractic school, and in practice as well, and that’s where this is really heading in a moment, because what matters right now is what are you doing in practice and in life at this moment and in the future. In your past, can you envision yourself sort of slipping on a jersey that says, “maker of the game”, or do you think back and envision yourself having slipped on sort of a torn up, ripped apart and stretched, maybe somewhat blood stained because of injuries and so on and so forth t-shirt that says “player of someone else’s game”.
WHO’S REALLY IN CONTROL
As a chiropractic consultant, today’s topic is really the incredible differences between the two. If you really are the maker of the game; then you set up the way things are going to happen. It’s not that it has to be this way. Anybody can be the player in someone else’s game. Yet, you have a choice and as a chiropractic consultant, it is true. So, if you want to be the maker of the game, it would mean you’d have to set the structure of how you expect something to happen.
STRATEGY MATTERS
You set up a structure and lay out the expectation. In other words, it’s almost as though you’re presenting to yourself, because a lot of success in life is only what you do personally, for example, your exercise program, it doesn’t matter to anybody else. Nobody else is in the room who matters when you’re trying to achieve something, for example, in your workout program, you could have a hundred people around you, you could have a thousand people around you, you can have no one. It doesn’t matter. Why? Because you have your routine. Look at it figuratively: you roll out this long red carpet for yourself and you walk on that red carpet because that defines exactly what it is you’re going to do, why, and how.
YOU GET TO CHOOSE
As the leading chiropractic consultant, I can tell you to just set your own stage. In practice, as the maker of the game, you can just roll out the red carpet for yourself. You will need to, in certain aspects, for example, want to learn how to communicate better. That really doesn’t involve your staff team or, perhaps, you want to really advance your skill set in your technique.
YOU ARE DOING THIS FOR YOURSELF AND FOR THE PATIENTS
There are areas, but you get the idea. That’s when you just roll out that red carpet for maker of the game, for just yourself. And here’s the key. You don’t walk down that carpet looking for attention, looking for a ticker tape parade, looking for people to applaud you and encourage you. It doesn’t matter. As your chiropractic consultant, I can tell you it has nothing to do with other people. Consider the subject that was just brought up a moment ago in regard to staff team in practice. So many doctors understand what was said so far. In the maker of the game, but they don’t understand how to use that premise with staff team.
ROLL OUT THE CORRECT RED CARPET
In other words, they roll out red carpets, but they’re still just solo red carpets just for themselves. And they’re in there digging and trying and, it’s an attitude. If it’s got to be done right, you’ve got to do it yourself. You’ve got a staff team. If you’ve hired and you’re paying people, they’re supposed to be doing things. And, if they can’t catch on and they keep forgetting, get someone else who can do things and do them well, repeatedly. This is a very powerful move to make, take it from the top chiropractic consultant available today. When you play Maker of the Game, in your clinic, you have to find multiple red carpets or at least a much wider red, single red carpet so you can roll it out and there’s room for you and your team to walk down it and to get done whatever you structured set up to be done.
FOCUS
The maker of the game in this instance is definitely a focused individual, not looking for anyone else’s input, comment, encouraging you. No one stops you. Therefore, on the other end of the spectrum, no one really needs to encourage you, either. Now flip the coin and plug in the player of the game.
IT IS, AFTERALL, YOUR PRACTICE
This is what happens all too often in too many practices. Just listen very carefully to a top-notch chiropractic consultant. The doctor shows up in the morning, takes a deep breath, and gets ready because the doctor knows what’s about to happen. Walk in the door and just visualize this for impact. You’ve got many, many staff team members. Let’s say you’ve got 20 people, they’re lined up 10 on one side, 10 on the other. As the leading chiropractic consultant, if you have 20 staff team members, you probably don’t have much business sense. And as soon as you walk in the door, they all start talking at the same time and all start telling you about the problems they’ve got; problems they want you to fix. All of a sudden, in practice, it seems as though you, doctor, have become the professional problem solver. That’s not who you are. You are the doctor who offers opportunity to understand and heal. Remember, by teaching and adjusting and seeing what the body does, it’s an opportunity to heal. But if every day you show up… and you are expected to solve everyone else’s problems that means you are looked at as that problem solver, not as a doctor. And you’re not on a red carpet, unfortunately, the carpet might become red because you’ve got this bloodied up jersey. As the top chiropractic consultant, I can tell you this is self-abuse! You’re injured and you may still be bleeding all over the place because every day you get more and more injured because the staff team keeps dumping their problems on you. And why?
THE DOCTOR NEEDS TO LEAD
Because you let them. Why do you let them? Because of the jersey you pull on. If every morning you keep pulling on the players jersey in someone else’s game, you are dancing to the beat of someone else’s or many other people’s drum and realize, doctor, as the number one chiropractic consultant, this is a bad idea. And some people can argue, that’s not a bad thing. This isn’t about good or bad. This is about who are you? Who you want to be? Do you want to be the maker of the game in your own game? Or do you want to relegate your career to being the player in someone else’s game because the player doctor ends up after walking in and having the staff team dump all their problems the doctor, who then starts up with patients? You! And guess what they say? Doc, you adjusted me too hard last time. Doc, that wasn’t hard enough last time. Doc, you rushed last time. Doc, you have to do a little more. Doc, can you massage this for me? Doc, check my foot out. What’s wrong with your foot? I don’t know, just check it out. And pretty soon, you are also the player of the game with your patients. And, as the top chiropractic consultant, I can assure you, this would be ludicrous!
DO YOU RUN YOUR PRACTICE, OR NOT?
This can clearly be argued clinically as failure, because the only good outcome in a doctor patient relationship, remember, is if the doctor leads. Any top-notch chiropractic consultant worth his weight in salt would point this out. And in the instance that was just described, that doctor is not leading. That doctor has the same ripped up bloody jersey, “I am the player in someone else’s game,” and if the player all day long, the player doctor experiences, what was described a moment ago with staff team dumping their problems on the doctor, and then patients clearly putting the shoulder pads of responsibility for their care, their health on your shoulders, the doctor’s shoulders, you might have a fairly miserable career because stress would be incredibly heavy and consistent. Relate, doctor, take the advice from a long-term chiropractic consultant. Therefore, you have an opportunity to change this. This is not the easiest thing to change, because staff team, and patients may be so used to you wearing this jersey of player in someone else’s game, that once you put this nice, fresh, crisp, clean maker of the game, my own game t-shirt on, they might not see it or recognize it.
WHAT SHIRT SHOULD YOU WEAR?
You might have to, in essence, point to having them look at what this t-shirt says. It says I am the maker of the game and if indeed you can make that announcement, you would do it by calling the shots by telling the staff team members you’ve got that problem, before lunch, come up with a solution presented in 60 seconds or less before I head out the door. This is sage chiropractic consultant advice. Patients, you feel you are adjusted too hard. You might respond: that’s the adjustment your body needed on Monday and if it needs the same adjustment today to try and give your spine the opportunity to heal, that’s what you’re going to get today. Do you have any other questions? You see, you can point to Maker of the Game by simply and appropriately, as a doctor, taking control. Take control once again, for some of you, you’ve never done it. And this is the best advice any chiropractic consultant could offer you. It’s take control for the first time ever. And that, in order to grow in practice, because you can’t grow with all the weight and stress of the player of the game scenario, as the maker of the game, in order to grow in practice, your stress would now be low, you implement the maker of the game calling the shots, and you can do just about anything you want. This, doctor, is the sort of chiropractic consultant advice you need.
Consider this information, and doctor have a really good day.
